Crystal Smitherman Announces Bid for Reelection to Birmingham City Council – District 6

June 13, 2025

BIRMINGHAM, AL – In a video shared on her social media channels and campaign website, today Birmingham City Councilor Crystal Smitherman announced her candidacy for reelection to represent District Six. Smitherman has committed to building upon the work of her last term to keep getting things done for her district and for Birmingham.

“Our community was struggling, but I didn’t give up. We secured funding to repair homes and streets, helped small businesses thrive, and made our parks safe and vibrant places for kids and families. The results are real—and there’s still more to do.

“With your vote on August 26th, we can keep building on this momentum—together,” Smitherman said.”

Since taking office, Smitherman has worked to guide District 6 through a critical period of recovery and growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Her efforts have led to expanded affordable housing, millions in local business investments, infrastructure repairs, and enhanced community services, including childcare and mental health support.

Under her leadership, District 6 has seen a significant drop in violent crime, including a nearly 50% reduction in the murder rate over the past year, the most dramatic decrease in Birmingham in eight years. She also spearheaded initiatives to fight food insecurity, support local farmers, and increase police presence through $15.8 million in public safety funding.

A lifelong resident of Titusville, Smitherman has prioritized investment in youth programming, education, and neighborhood revitalization. She remains committed to serving the people of District 6 with the same dedication and passion that has defined her first term.
